Background Information: The only child of Jayson Reed and Clare Giovanni-Reed, a Starfleet Medical Instructor and civilian Doctor respectively, she lived mostly with her father as her mother was often in areas of Italy where it was not suitable for children or for family. Clare visited often and Jayson was often off world on assignment to Vulcan. As a result Jessica was raised mostly near Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco by a nanny.

When she was enrolled in school she showed promises in mathematics and in the sciences so was placed in specially focused classes. Her skills were varied like the rest of her classmates but by the time she was ready for Starfleet Academy she was already one year ahead of her classmates as far as medical training and schooling. This was done so she wouldn’t become board with school.

Her father was killed when she was 18 and shortly after her mother died in an uprising after a natural disaster in the capital city of Italy. This made her more focused and she progressed quickly through the course work and was put on a starship for training in her second year of schooling.

By the time that she was ready to be an officer she was able to read a situation quickly and was considered for bridge officer training before she was cited for disobeying a superior officer because it directly violated the Hippocratic Oath that all medical officers take prior to being assigned to a ship or expected to perform medical duties.
